The Moab area has more than 1,000 campsites, some public others private. Campgrounds within the National Parks, State Parks & National Forests generally have fewer amenities than privately owned campgrounds.
Camping in the National Parks
Devils Garden campground in Arches National Park is open year round. The campground has 52 individual sites. $15/night. Up to 28 of the individual sites may be reserved for nights between March 1st and October 31st. To make a reservation go to www.Recreation.gov. The remaining 24 campsites are available on a first-come, first -served basis each day beginning at 7:30 a.m. Reservations are not accepted by the park.
In Canyonlands National Park, there are developed campgrounds in Island in the Sky and Needles districts. First-come first-served. No food available in any districts. Camping in Dead Horse Point State Park
Nine miles northwest of Moab on US Hwy 191 and then 23 miles southwest on Utah Hwy 313 to the end of the highway and Visitors Center. Camp only in designated areas. $20. Reservations recommended 800-322-3770. Kayenta campground has 21 campsites. Limited drinking water. All water must be trucked to the park. Please fill water tanks before arriving at Dead Horse Point. Other Camping Options
The Sand Flats Recreation Area, developed through the collaborative efforts of Americorps, BLM, Grand County and the Moab community has 110 campsites, open year round on a first-come, first-serve basis. Campers need to bring in all their drinking water. Costs: $10 per vehicle for four people; $2 for each additional person, kids 7 and under free.
The Bureau of Land Management operates campgrounds on a first come - first serve basis, limited to 14 days within a 30-day period. RV Sites have no hookups. More information: Fees are charged for campgrounds and semi-developed campsites. (435) 259-2444. www.blm.gov/utah/moab/campgrounds.html
Two popular campgrounds along Hwy 128 include Hittle Bottom Campground, 23 miles from the junction of Highway 191, has with 12 campsites and toilets. $12/per site. Dewey Bridge Campground, 28 miles from the junction of Highway 191, has 7 campsites and toilets. $12/site. Ken's Lake Campground, located 8.5 miles south of Moab off Hwy 191, accommodates even the largest motor homes. $10/per site. 31 sites. Has toilets. Horsethief Campground is located on Highway 313, 12 miles from the junction of Hwy 191. $10/site. 60 sites. Near Dead Horse Point State Park and the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. Has toilets.
There are several areas in which no sites are designated. Camping is not allowed in: The Shafer Basin, Dead Horse Point State Park; Long Canyon, which is subject to extreme flooding; Mill Creek area immediately east of the city of Moab; and the west side of Spanish Valley.
Archview Resort, at the intersection of Utah Hwy 313 and 191, has pumps to fill up propane tanks and a tank for RV latrine dumping.
